and unlike the Mockingbirds and the Robins, the Cardinals never accept me as one who is there to provide
and not hurt/threaten. Even the Chickadees now land within 2 feet to grab a sunflower seed.
This leads me to wonder about bird intelligence. I just now think the Mockingbirds are smarter.

Posting EXIF since POTN doesn't know the GX8 or the Leica 100-400mm

Red bird on a green background - most dramatic. Very nice shot.

That's a beautiful shot Doc! What is it that you provide for robins and mocking birds?

Paul nothing for the Robins, plenty of worms in the yard for them and they've never responded to anything I put out.
The Mockingbirds are mealworm freaks. They gormandize them to no end.

Do you go with dried or live meal worms? The mockers here really go for suet

Have used both. Most recently live ones the tarantula didn't eat, so they went to the birds.
Suet is a staple for a lot of the ones that visit us but again not the Robins--they are food snobs.
Do have a nesting pair of Robins right by the door out back, 3rd year in a row. I open the door, she
flies off, I walk away she flies back, rinse and repeat over and over---they never figure I'm no harm.
The Mocks are just smarter and let me get close; well even the hawk now lets me stay in the yard
while he flies in...
