I was out in Manning Park (BC provincial park) last weekend, and Friday night was cold and clear - the sky was practically littered with stars. I didn't have a remote release or even a tripod, but I'm pretty happy with this shot, using my hat as a rest for the camera and a 30 second exposure...

Nice capture , which lens did you use ? I see in your equip lineup you have a 17-85mm f/4-5.6 and a 17-55mm f/2.8 . If you used the f/2.8 you should have a brighter image correct ?

I used the f/2.8 for 30 seconds at ISO 6400. I had to raise my dark point a bit, since the 7D isn't exactly noise friendly at that ISO. I wasn't thinking clearly... I should have kept ISO lower, but I was just happy that I finally had some peace and quiet after getting 25 Scouts into their tents :)

It's not often that we have clear skies in Southwestern BC. They don't call us a temperate rainforest for nothing ;)
