Mountain Boomer

Yeah, I know. The official name is "Collared Lizard" but it's such a plain name for such a colorful critter. Here in Oklahoma - where it is the state lizard - we call it a "Mountain Boomer". Much better name, don't you think? This guy was on full display and posed patiently yesterday in the Wichita Mountains in SW Oklahoma.

Mountain Boomers they are! However I must disclaim that I too am an Okie, and that is what we called that lizard while I was growing up!
