That simply wasn't a great test, and it does look like there is focus where he wants it, it is just slightly off, if that. As you know, some video where some guy tried to focus on a spot with obstructions and didn't really describe his process just isn't enough evidence, or any, of issues. They are the first Canon bodies that did NOT have discrepancies between the visible and the actual AF points. I thought, surely, this must be common knowledge.

TeamSpeed 01010100 01010011 More info | Not sure what you are arguing for or against, but I stated crop bodies... Also the 1D3 went through its own hell, with recalls, etc. on AF issues. Much worse than anything seen on any of the APS-C bodies. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I watched the video, and the maker put an AF point right on the border between two vari-distant targets. He got variable results. Surprise. I did the same thing with 500D, 450D, 60D & 70D. The center point is usually really close. The lower points on my 60D overlapped the top half of the VF box they were assigned to.

May 13, 2016 13:42 | #14 The AF points are not discrete sensors. There is actually only one planar sensor and the points in the viewfinder indicate areas of peak sensitivity and these extend beyond the red squares. This is true of all Canon DSLRs (and probably all phase-detect focusing systems). It's no secret. Canon specifically mention it in a number of their publications. The attached was taken from the 1DIV white paper showing the difference between single-point and spot AF. Image hosted by forum (792940) © Scott_online [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW.
