I didn't read everyone else's responses but if you plan on shooting any video then the Sony a6300 is the way to go. The only true benefit about going with Fuji are the JPEG files, as well as the community... Otherwise, the a6300 can take on Fuji's flagship X-Pro2.

I shot exclusively with Fujifilm for one year, including the X-T1, X-E1 and X100T and have just recently switched to the a6000.

-Good thread! I am in the same situation. I am using a canon xsi with 18-135, 50 f1.8, and yongnuo flash. I would really miss the flash TTL if I chose Fuji, but then Sony doesn't have great selection right now. Goddox just seems to be producing a reasonably priced flash with TTL. My photography, which is basically snapshots of my kids in the house, really improved with the giant bounce flash. Suddenly my 50 f1.8 could actually focus!

Those Fuji sales right now look great, too bad I wasn't able to pick up the X-E2 /w 18-55 from Adorama when it was $700 two months ago. I don't know if the XT10 /w 18-55 is worth it at $900. Or I could get the XT10 and 35 f2 also for 900. The Sony with an equivalent lens would be twice as much, if you consider the 18-105 or 16-70 as equivalent.

Oh, and is the fuji video better than using a cell phone? Everyone says it is bad, but on a tripod with a good lense it can't be that bad, can it? I have never used video on any dlsr before. Thanks,

Trying to keep my wife happy with her want for video capabilities so I'm exploring other ideas and options and I came across the Panasonic GX85 which has alot of very good reviews and will do 4k video and its a fair about cheaper then the a6300 and I was wondering does anyone have any experience with it?

The Micro 4/3 Panasonic G7 has 4k capabilities with proprietary DFD auto focus. Infact the G7 has cleaner less noise than the GH4 flagship.

For quick vids of family documentation the A6300 will do a great job. The still photography you'll have incredible high ISO that the M43 format cannot touch. This all comes down to how demanding you are when it comes to photos/video in low light. My take on gear is that if you can purchase gear I'd try to buy what will maximize your performance regardless of light situation. The A6300 will "deliver" when it comes to video/stills in low light.

If you had the luxury of adding video lights or shoot above iso 1600 for video the G7 will outrun the A6300 for long duration shooting without overheating. This is one of my "needs" for longer duration video shooting. The G7 is appealing for me for video duties.

IMO the A6300 is a noticeable step above your previous canon 7d as far as IQ is concerned.

IQ wise for low light I'd buy a Sony A6000 before an M43 16 megapixel camera.

The only drawback to sony is the cost of the better quality faster lenses.

This is where you must truly pick and choose camera platforms that meets your needs and $$$

In my particular case the m43 did not meet my needs in home family documentation with no flash indoors. The fuji did a much better job in my requirements. At this moment in time I'd rather add more lenses to my Canon system for professional needs rather than investing in a Sony system (even though I know it will be better in short clip video's and high iso shooting in low light than my panasonic gh3).

The Panasonic GX85 will probably have equivalent to better iso performance than you 7d. ISO 1250-1600 was my tolerance with the 7D when I shot with that canon body.

Ended up preordering the gx85. I just felt it covers both what I want and what my wife wants the best while keeping budget in mind. Everything I've read has said tons of good about the gx85 for both stills and video and the lenses are much more budget friendly vs Sony and having 4k video is a big plus to my wife vs Fuji. With it I ordered up the P42.5 F1.7 lens and plan to order the P20 F1.7 or P25 F1.7 in a few weeks.

To maximize IQ your doing the write thing in selecting good primes. I'd suggest looking at the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15 mm f/1.7 for a semi wide angle lens that is fast enough for indoors.

Down the road adding a Panasonic 12-35mm will be an extremely good lens for running around video application. One thing to note is the lack of external mic input is a drastic hit on more serious videographers using this small camera for video application.

The 12-35 is definitely on the list of future lenses I'd like to add and I'm really wanting an Olympus 40-150 F2.8 for when the kids get bigger and start running around. F2.8 at 300mm would definitely be nice to have and the lens isnt priced bad either! From what I'm reading alot of people are saying the kit lens is surprisingly good and with IBIS shooting a sleeping toddler indoor shouldn't be an issue as I can lower the shutter speed. Probably in the spring I will add the 12-35 F2.8 or oly 40-150 F2.8 though. 4k video will be a big learning curve I've never shot video before at all.
