Hi all,

Just been trying out some new processing techniques, looking for some feedback if possible?

It's a neat picture but it looks a little too close to selective color for my taste.

Sparks flying at impact would add ...well.... impact...

yeah i was surprised there were no sparks coming off but aparrently it isn't common when just shaping the shoe. might have to get some staged shots next time.

It would be cool if there was some motion blur of the hand and hammer :-) Is it possible to reshoot?

Feel free to call me an oddball, but the leather safety chaps and no safety glasses speaks volumes to me. Is he really more worried about his jeans than his eyes? I could not have taken that shot with my client putting his sight in that kind of danger.

The chaps are more for the hoofs and to protect his legs incase he drops the shoe. I cant say there are any sparks or anything like that going near his eyes. He did wear safety specs when he was using the grinder though!

Well, goggles and grinder is a good thing!

I spent my military time dealing with huge quantities of flammable liquids, and tons (literally!) of high explosives. Forgive me if 'safety' is now a permanent part of my brain. The proper way to evaluate risk is: chance of an incident X devastation that incident causes. If he drops one shoe a year, and the chaps save a $40 pair of pants (and a nasty burn), all is well and good. If only one red-hot piece of metal flies off than anvil in his entire career, and it permanently blinds him in the process, the safety goggles would have been a much better investment. My guess is they are also much cheaper than leather chaps.

Full disclosure. I am not a blacksmith, so my perspective may be a bit skewed.
