Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new camera and think i've narrowed it down to either the Canon G1X mkII or the Canon G5X.

In your humble opinions, which one do you see as the best of the two - better sensor/processor/image quality?

I know the Canon G5X goes down to f/1.8 but is that an advantage or is the G1X mkII processor better and outweighing the lower f stop of the G5X

Would be interested in your thoughts and experiences please

Thanks in advance

I don't like to chime in when I haven't used the cameras in question, but based on reviews, and the built in EVF, I'd go with the G5X. The G1Xmk2 sounded good, and got some very positive user reviews here, but never really seemed to catch on.

I hate when people do this, but I'll do it anyway. ;-)a If I were buying a camera in this class I would be going with the Panasonic LX100.

Cheers for the reply - i'm certainly leaning towards the G5X. One contributing factor is the fully articulating screen which is a big aid as I do a lot of self takes when fishing.

I did look at the G7X mike but for the above reason, plus no facility for an external flash, I kicked that one in to touch

I had the G1X2, but I didn't like the external viewfinder. I also didn't like not being able to use an external flash and viewfinder at the same time. I wasn't happy with the flip-up screen, either. When the G5X came out, I sold the G1X2 and bought the G5X. I'm very happy with it. :-)

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

That's my kind of answer - thanks very much. I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered a G5X - looking forward to getting to grips with it

Ian, I upgraded my 7 year old G11 to the G5X a month ago. I am delighted with G5X. The IQ is vey sharp, the EVF is top notch, and the flip screen works great. The controls are very easy to use and you will quickly master them.

One word of caution...it does use up the battery pretty quickly. I had to switch out the battery after 200 shots. My solution was to buy an extra battery.

If you are looking for a case for the G5X I recommend the Black Rapids SnapR 20. It is best P&S bag I have ever used and fits the G5X like a glove.

Jim -- I keep the Leica D-Lux 7 in the Glove Box just in case!
