Voltage converter for Europe?

Hi Everyone

Hope you can help me.

I'm going to be traveling in Europe this summer and I believe I have to purchase a voltage converter and adapter plugs so I can charge my Canon G5 periodically. I will be in the UK, Ireland and France.

Is there a special type of converter I have to purchase especially for the camera...or is there some type of generic converter that can also be used for hair dryers and shavers etc.?

I would really appreciate some assistance in this regard.

Thanks very much.

I am unsure of your model but with charger from the 10d can be used in Europe with only a pin converter, read the lable on the charger if it states input voltage 100-240 you are ok and only the a 2 pin to 3 pin converter not a true voltage converter. If you are still unsure, you can bring the charger to your local Radio Shack and ask them to look at it. I've been living and working in the Post Soviet Union and Erurope for the last 8 years and most computer hardware that i have seen will work in the 100-240V range.

You will also find that in the UK you will use a 3-pin device, where in the rest of Europe you will use a round pin 2-pin device

I believe the charger is multi-voltage with automatic voltage sensing. Check on the charger transformer label. You should only need an adapter plug to convert the US two-prong to a three-prong for the UK and two round prong for France.

I used the charger from my G6 in UK and Ireland with a simple pin-adapter with no issues. As mentioned above, the UL label on it states 110-240V. You can usually find a multi-pack of travel adapters without the voltage converter for a lot less than the packages that include a voltage converter. If all your electronics allow 110-240, you're set.

Thanks so much.

I had a better look at my charger. Now I know all I have to do is get the correct plugs, and hopefully won't blow the thing up!!

Bye for now.
