Does it make a difference for the lifespan/health of my camera whether I use silent or normal shutter?

May 20, 2016 23:20 | #3 I found the answer on stackexchange. Basically, mirror may wear faster, but the motor that drives the mirror may wear slower. (on normal) Canon 5Ds || Zeiss Sonnar 135/2 || Zeiss Otus 85/1.4 || Sigma ART 85/1.4 || Sigma ART 50/1.4 || Tamron SP 35/1.4

Using silent shutter in vertical led to catastrophic failure. Happened twice. Third time I noticed the change in the sound of the mechanism and switched back to normal and I don't recall replacing the shutter on that body again. Definitely no issue on 5DmkIII several hundred thousands of frames with probably between 1/3 and 1/2 of them being silent.
