I'm mulling over picking up a Wacom 13HD for editing photos with my 13" MacBook Pro Retina.

I do have Wacom's medium sized digitizer tablet, and I've never really invested the time in learning how to use it. People rave about the improvements the tablets make to their editing, but I guess I'm just too impatient to deal with the learning curve. I think if I could see what I was doing on the tablet it might make things a bit easier for me. What I am most hoping to improve by utilizing a digitizer are my selections.

I'm used to editing on a small screen, so I'm really not worried about that. It is very seldom that I actually hook up my big external monitors to my MacBook. I do have the two required ports on my MacBook that the 13HD requires (HDMI & USB).

Resolution does worry me. My MacBook is 2560 x 1600 at 227 ppi. The 13HD is 1,920 x 1,080 at ~165ppi. I don't know if there could be a problem/frustration here or not?

I don't know if I should just suck it up and learn to use the digitizer I have, or if the 13HD would be a worthwhile investment. I'd love some feedback. :)

I was in your shoes. I bought a cheap Wacom bamboo to try out. I just couldn't get use to it, I was probably too impatient too. Lol.

I end up saving up money and bought a Cintiq 24HD instead. I never looked back. My workflow has been smoother and faster since then.

I would highly recommend Cintiq if you can afford it. :)

I had thought about a Surface Pro for mobile work. Actually having USB ports that I could connect a camera too, and being able to backup photos to it while in the field, make it really appealing. The weight savings over my MacBook are appealing, too. I don't normally bring my MacBook out if I'm packing my gear a ways, and my iPad doesn't really cut it for mobile work. I'm just not convinced that the Surface Pro has the computing horsepower I want (at my price point, anyway) for my heavier editing tasks (stitching panoramas, stacking images, etc.). They are interesting devices, I just don't think they really have a place in my workflow right now.
