Hi,

I have tried to contact Pocketwizard to no avail, so I am posting here to see if anyone else can confirm my findings.

I realize the 1Dx MkII is not a widly distributed camera just yet with it just being released, so not too many will have it, but hopefully just one person out there has one to help me out.

It appears that the 1Dx II is not compatible with the Flex and Mini in ETTL mode. I tried using a 430exII flash with the PW, but the camera will not talk to the flash, I get an error on the 1Dx that says the flash in no compatible.

I retested on my 1D mk IV and it works fine.

I have upgraded the firmware on the Flex and Mini to 6.9. Release notes for the Flex and Mini only show compatibility to 1Dx. has anyone got the Flex and Mini to work with a 1Dx MkII?

PW has first to rent/buy a 1Dx MKII to create the table that is used for this just released camera to work with the PW products.

Sorry to go off topic but has any new firmware updates changed the performance of the flex units? I just haven't had luck with them using eTTL reliably without misfires. Even using alkaline batteries did not change the issues I've been having. I've lending my PW's to my brother as he's only using them as dummy triggers for strobes.

Looking forward to hear your comments. I'm impressed to hear the PW flex/mini is a part of your workflow......

If you have the misfires in combination with the 580EXII then it is working as designed...as by Canon. This flash is a screamer in the frequency range that is owned by PW for countries that use 344MHz range.

You have special 580EXII suppressors that embed the flash so it silenced a bit.

The design of which predated the pocket wizard flex system by several years.

Weren't 5d II Canon owners clamouring for a pw flex update when that camera first came out, but it took an awful long time to come?

The 580EXII was released in 2008 and the PW's in 2009.

Since the 1DX and the 5Dr/5Ds they have faster way to generate the tables for camera and flash so will be swifter than in those years.

Thanks for the response.

I truly put the PW's in storage and lend them to my brother when he needs them for triggers for his strobes. Quite an expensive trigger system for basic function.

I should update the firmware...it's been a while. I updated to the latest firmware and it did not help the misfires even as I used it manual mode with the AC3.

I'm willing to test it with my 600EX-RT. I really do like the tactile dials for power adjustment remotely. I love my Cactus V6 with RF60 speedlites now for instant power adjustments for manual flash.

Has anybody tried 600exrt flashes with PW flex system? It would be interesting to know if the problems are resolved with the new flashes.

Whether anybody would want to nowadays use an RT capable flash with an early after market trigger is debatable, but it would certainly be interesting.

A firmware update of the PW's won't help you when the source of the problem is outside of the PW's.

The PW's TT5 Flex and TT1 mini are far from a basic trigger and have lot of functions that are now, 6 years later, introduced in the current trigger products. Modern triggers can now use big displays to interface with the user to adjust settings. At least PW let you store two presets in a trigger and receiver so you are a bit flexible.

If you need a basic trigger you can instruct the PW to just be that and it become also useable on non Canon/Nikon camera's as long the flashfoot fits and there is a x-sync conttact.

The AC3 is the best interface for me even in these modern times....I am going to miss it on my Godox stuff.

The 600EX RT is supported except for the following features: Multi (stroboscopic), Group mode is not supported, "ALL" selection is not supported, but Ratios are available in supported Master modes.

Canon is too expensive these days and you better get other brands, Godox has nice ones and now even with Lion batteries instead of standard AA and a complete trigger system (Canon/Nikon/Sony) to go with the build-in receiver.

Where's the best place to buy? isn't it the same as cheetah?

Have they resolved the battery issues?

I've been out of the loop lately. I just been using my cactus for manual flash. The RF60 seems to work extremely well!!

You can buy them at Cheetahstand and Adorama. The battery issue was resolved more than a year ago and it was present in the previous generation of flashes by Godox.

I have recievers/powerMC on my Einsteins and do not have trigger issues either with my PW flex.

It's the ETTL & Manual flash strobist work that the flex units are dreadful with mifires with my Canon speedlites.
