The theme of this week's challenge is flare. Flare is commonly considered bad, yet there are occasions when flare is used creatively. Most of those shots involve people. Yet, I have seen examples of great use of flare without including people.

Post your creative use of flare, without including people.

This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 4:00 pm Western time, Monday, May 30th, 2016. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera: Any Digital Camera, but NO Cell Phones.
2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size: Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post Processing: Do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting: ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge. Camera model & lens used. Post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting: No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends – 4pm, Western Time Monday, May 30th, 2016.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

For most of the week, I thought I would have an easy time picking a winner from one or two entries. Then, in the last 2 days, shot after shot were entered. All fantastic captures. Thanks again for taking part.

After much back and forth, I'll pick 'Driftwood Sunrise' (lavanut) as the winner, with 'into the sun' (Jason C) and 'Icarus' (M_Six), as very very close seconds.

Wow, thanks Sibil for the challenge and the nod and for the comments teekay, Jason, & M_six! As I posted that, I realized I wanted to go back & reprocess it now that I've learned a few more things since then. I really liked that piece of driftwood, and the sun & shadow really made the shot for me. I thought it was interesting that both Jason & M_six did such similar things. I bet we've all shot birds in the sky against the sun at some point. The "Icarus" title was perfect. :-)

I'll ponder things & get a new challenge up tomorrow.

Some great shots here, unfortunately I had no flair for this competition.

Congratulations Lisa. That is a great shot and most worthy of the win.

Well done Jason and M_six.
