I'm in the process of getting a new logo made, something that will be more attractive to my potential clients. On elf the things the designer sent was a questionarrie regarding what I liked and so on. Truthfully, I couldn't put anything into words.

i'm curious as to how you guys came with your logo/brandmark. Did you "copy" someone's you had seen? Did you just know it when you saw?

I just picked some text that I liked. I had done a lot of reading and studying on the concept of branding and I decided I wanted it compressed so that the brand appearance would be consistent, and it is. it looks the same on my website, business cards, and watermarks :-D

I designed mine alone, found some text i liked on a font website, played with layouts and colours, found what i liked. I have changed several times though.

now i have a watermark, decal and business card design, all different styles but suited to the type of client i would use it for.

I.E, Automotive is quite grity style but equine is mre refined.

I would keep it simple and classy. You also want to convey your brand so it has to reflect your type of photography.

I think a lot of it needs to come from your business name. If it is a short name then incorporating one of the main letters into the logo design is an easy one. Not so easy when it is a longer name.

I also agree with what was said above about it depending on the type of photography. if it is weddings and engagements then script/cursive seems to look more elgant than block designs. If you were doing automotive as mentioned, then block designs or something less subtle would probably work best.

I think the same could hold true with colors in the logo itself. Less color for elegance and more bold colors for other types of work.
