What is everybody's thoughts on this lens for Basketball? I don't see a lot of reviews, but the focal length would be perfect for the HS basketball I shoot, and the 1.3 stops faster than my 70-200 would allow me to get down to 1600 ISO or even lower on my 7DII.

I am mainly concerned with how the AF would be. I also don't know if I would have any other uses for this lens. I have my 5DIII for portraits, and I can't really think of any other sports where this would be useful. (Maybe volleyball?)

I think it would be great....Even my Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS has phenomenal AF speed and accuracy. The newer Sigma can not be worst....

two specs that is holding me back is the lack of OS and the reach at the far end.
in my opinion, this art is more of a generic portrait glass than sports / action glass.

If it focuses as fast as the 50A it will be really good for indoor sports.

looks very tempting. I do think the 50-100 is a nice range and the F1.8 has to help.
I just finally got my 24-70 Tamron this week. I still find myself having a tough time removing my 70-200 though... I really only got it for when the gym is tight and/or for some close up under the basket option.
the 50-100 seems very interesting.

I have my eyes on this lens, for basketball, also. Like others, I don't know how the AF will perform in a dim basketball gym. I am just waiting to see real life experiences and reviews.

Interesting... might not be a bad idea.

I do find myself (as of late) really shooting a lot in the 50-80 range (on my crop sensor) so I do think the 50-100 range for basketball might be very nice. It seems many times my 24-70 is not enough and my 70-200 is too much LOL..... too bad there is no 25-150 or something along those lines... would be ideal for basketball.

I do also find myself questioning my sigma 70-200. It seems many times my shots are out of focus and/or difficult to focus on the right subject during games. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with my T3i and I'm probably going to be upgrading the body to the 7dMII however I'm not 100% sure if its more the camera's AF or the lens.... or both, or maybe the low light setting that I'm in or all of it combined LOL.... I am trying to compare now to my tamron 24-70 to see if I have the same focus issues.. so far it seems still present however the tamron feels like it focuses better/faster.. maybe it's just me who knows...

I am also tempted to get rid of the 70-200 sigma for the canon which would eliminate the question of if it's the lens.. tough to do all upgrades and now throw this 50-100 1.8 in the mix....

have you tried on another body to see if it's the glass issue or the body AF issue?

Not yet, I was considering a new body anyways as the t3i has limits... So I might try that first anyways, just deciding if it's best to go with 7dii or attempt full frame for the better low light performance and better focal range?

if you are into shooting action / wildlife, I would say 7D2 would fit your requirements assuming you have good glass.
If budget is of no issue, you may want to consider 1DX or 1DX2.

If budget is an issue, you may want to consider 6D or wait for 6D2? :-D

thanks. right now it seems the 7dII is best. I only shoot indoor basketball and right now I have 70-200 sigma and 24-70 Tamron.
