Good shots of them - always seems funny to me how the birds don't have a field-day with these. They trash my roses.

Hopefully not. It's my tree so I have done some careful pruning to get rid of most of them

Oh no, I didn't realise they attacked roses. I will have to check mine.

Perhaps I could retrain the larvae so that they attack weeds instead

Yes, if your rose stems suddenly go bare, they are the culprit (although you usually see them on the roses, they make short work of stripping them)
