how many 580EX flashes would i nid for a full body portrait?

still, one.

2 might be nice, but you could probaly use a reflector more then another flash.


30mm, 50mm, 85mm, and some zooms here and there.
All nikon :D

Few if any studios that I know of use on camera D/C powered flash units for full length portraits, most use A/C powered units with large softboxes or umbrellas, myself included. For the image below, I used three small A/C units to illuminate the background, one A/C unit in an umbrella behind the camera and another A/C unit in a 24 x 32 inch softbox at camera right.

You need a minimum of one but depending on the "look" you're after you may need to add on one or more to it.
