My poor little G9 seems to have given up the ghost. Either that or the battery is just shot. Any idea to help me trouble shoot are appreciated in advance.

Others have been there with this or something like it. Here's one thread from several years ago

Thankfully, I've never had the issue, and now my wife is using the G9 without issues.

Don't like to learn of another G9 death. I hope it is not the camera itself. Denncald's right, with the screw-loose link.

Other things....

some people in the past have said remove the SD Card and the battery for X minutes (~15 min ??)

also, try powering ON into PLAY, rather than camera.

you can try other weird things... like no battery, no SD card, and then holding down the power Button and then insert the battery. Do test the battery for voltage (or help from a friend).

Lastly clean the battery contacts with a pencil eraser. And you can put the camera in a box with some rice or dessicant to wick out moisture.

Good luck.

Thanks Carloy, I bought, charged and tried a new battery, no luck there. Tried the S/D card and battery removal, nothing. Tried powering on in play mode ( I assume you hold both power on and play buttons at the same time) with no luck. Guess the next step is to open her up !

There are services that will repair it with the 'exact' new board for your model/serial#, and calibrate everything for reasonable. A few years ago, that was approx. $100 plus shipping one direction.

IIRC, there are two boards that could 'die' because of the screw problem (of course, there may be other causes). IIRC, one is small, right under the power button. The other is a bit larger, behind the thumb wheel. Good luck.

Here's a link to one of the original posts, archived. Unfortunately, the pictures did not survive, but you may gain some extra info.
