I completely agree with your point. Introducing a species that is not native to another ecosystem can have negative consequences as that species will compete with the native wildlife. Starlings and House sparrows are a good example here in the United States.

Fingers crossed it works out for these magnificent animals. Great set of shots, well done.

Exactly correct! I actively exterminate both of those species from my yard.

Just to be clear, they haven't just let loose a load of tigers into the Kruger to see what happens! This is a controlled experiment in a (very large) fenced reserve. There are intentionally no other big cats there for the tigers to compete with so the tigers have assumed the role of the apex predator. They are ambush predators like leopards so from the prey's point of view, it's no different to living in an area where there are leopards.

Tiger conservation in Asia just doesn't seem to be working. The exact number left is disputed (it's somewhere between 1500 and 2200 I believe) but there is consensus that the numbers are dwindling rapidly. I saw one report that estimated one tiger had been lost every day this year! They could fix this at a stroke by fencing the parks in India but for whatever reason this hasn't happened, and until they do it's going to be down to places like Tiger Canyons to preserve wild tigers.

Whew! Those are some pretty spectacular photos.

Beautiful photos! I've been to Tiger Canyons (2015) and loved the shots I took there. On that trip, we paid the premium to have JV guide for us. I have a group that wants to go there in 2017 and I'm trying to better understand what the experience is like if you don't have JV leading the game drives. Did you use JV or other rangers? Any comments on what I am considering?
