I have a YN622C-TX and a YN685 and have no problem controlling the YN685 with the YN622. I recently acquired a 430ex ii and I really like the small size. I've been using it with a cord to do OCF with macro shots. I would like to be able to control it off camera without the cord though but for the life of me can't figure out how to control it with the YN622. I thought it was compatible. I'm feeling like an idiot, thanks for any help.

The TX is a transmitter that mounts on your camera. It can only control you 430 when the 430 is mounted on a YN-622c (receiving) unit. One TX can control as many receiving units as you can afford. Of course, you'll need a flash for each receiving unit.

Thank you for the help. Now I remember that was one of the reasons I bought the YN685, the built in receiver. I still feel like an idiot but now I know how to fix the problems, thanks Bassat.

Welcome to the club. According to my wife, I've been an idiot for 30+ years. The last good decision I made was to marry her, she says.

Will the Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter control a 430ex ii without it being mounted on a receiver?

when the 430 (ex II) is mounted on a YN-622c (receiving) unit.

Make sure that you get the YN622C II, for the latest hardware and firmware improvements!

Yes. But it is will not work with the YN685. The Canon light-pulse system and the 622C-TX radio system can work side by side partially, but it is difficult to do.

Avoid mixing communication systems. Stick with the one you have - 622C.
