What would cause the date/time-taken to lose a few hours/minutes on both of our T3 and therefore display an incorrect time-taken?

I don't know how long this has been going on and I probably would not have noticed if the discrepancy had only been a half-hour or so; but, when I saw that pictures I had taken at lunch-time were shown to be taken before daylight, I knew something was definitely off.

Amount of use and frequency of battery removal does not seem to play a part in this; as, my T3 was off by about five hours, whereas the wife's T3 that is used probably ten times as much was only off by about forty minutes.

Correct railroad time had been set on both cameras at our recent switchover to DST.

Thanks.

Traveling by train, huh?!:)
No other weirdness showing up? The button battery is used for this, so it might be time to replace that one.

Do you regularly connect the camera to the computer? Time is updated every time you do. If it has been several months then the clock could be several seconds off. Not sure why it would be off by hours though.

I sort of thought there must be another battery in there somewhere; my camera is definitely the oldest by quite a bit, so that could explain why mine was off by hours whereas her's being newer was off much less.

What would be the outcome should that button battery completely give up the ghost?

So far as I know, neither of these cameras have ever been connected to the computer.

One thing I do intend to start doing is to have a look at the time display before heading out to take pictures.

Thanks.

Those links show the camera does not have a user-replaceable internal battery (most Canons do - hence my original suggestion :( ). Not sure how to help except make sure a full regular battery is in there for a good long time to recharge the internal one. The internal one apparently fails sometimes - then it'$ repair time :(

Thanks so much for all of this.

Of course, if there was only one camera in the world that had an inaccessible battery, it would be the one I have.....
