Thanks to all who participated this week! Here are a few thoughts & comments on the entries this week.
OldCrow (Don): I always like photographing water and trying to freeze motion. It's amazing the shapes you can see when you "stop time" as the water moves through the air. I'm also impressed you did that with a Powershot.
I'm not sure if you use Photoshop or not, but one thing you might want to consider for future water shots (if you do more) is to clean up some of the stray drops so the eye can focus on the main stream. I didn't think about that until someone suggested it to me, and I was amazed at the difference it made.
Darkslinger: I love getting shots of water drops on leaves & such. On your image, I think I'd have liked to see the focus on the larger drop towards the bottom of the left leaf. SInce it's a larger drop, my eye wants to go there, but it's out of focus.
Teekay & Sculpting Stream: I really liked this image. The nice S curve, the light blue reflected in the water blends nicely with the yellow and orange(ish) rock. It evokes a nice relaxing mood for me. Where was this shot? The sand seems to be black, so was it in Hawaii?
ummechengr & Faucet: First, welcome to the challenges! It's good to see some new folks dropping by! I like the idea of the faucet & water coming out. I'm thinking you might've been trying to frame the faucet with the wood, but the framing doesn't quite work since it cuts through the top of the faucet. The sky is also blown out. Maybe next time you might want to try metering for the sky and using a fill flash or changing the composition.
Sibil & BIF: Something about this scene appeals to me. The dark shadows/silhouette of the bird & other objects contrasted against the water reflecting off the water is intriguing. I find myself looking around the image at the subtleties in there such as the patterns in the water from the boats. However for me, the dark is just too dark. I find myself wanting to try to see more detail on the land.
Voaky999 (the other Don) & Bubble: I confess I smiled when I saw this. Bubbles bring back childhood memories and fun times. Of course some of my cats like to chase them now too. How many tries did it take to get one in focus?
I like having 2 in the scene, and I like seeing the details in the bubble. Are you looking up to take the picture? A little nitpik, I'd clone out the 3 little white spots on the photo
I confess I really wrestled with trying to pick a winner for this. These are the 3 that stood out most for me: Oldcrow and the "frozen" water, Teekay's stream, and Voaky's Bubble. After pondering & thinking about the photos, I'm giving the win this week to Voaky999 (Don) and Bubble. The crispness of the bubble and the simplicity of the shot are what won me over. Teekay's stream is second, and OldCrow's water is third. Don, if you'd cleaned up some of those stray drops, you might've taken the title this week.
Congrats, Voaky!!
Now I need to go shoot some more liquids myself! Thanks again for contributing!!
