Just wondering if/when I should make the upgrade from Windows 7. Does anyone have input on their experience upgrading to Windows 10 re: compatibility/problems with using Photoshop & Lightroom CC, OnOne, NIK, Topaz, etc.?

Thanks.

One word: don't(or does that count as 2?)
Compatibility with programs is fine, all adobe programs work as they should. But.. And thats a big but, driver problems! I've had many problems connecting new devices and I ended up going back to w7 within the week.

+1 for a flawless transition (from 8.1 to 10, 64-bit). Only hiccup I had was with Adobe Acrobat, but that needed upgrading anyhow.

Just as note, Windows 10 free upgrade is scheduled to end July 29, 2016. Not sure if that is an issue or not, or what happens next. I personally have had no issues using Windows 10 with Lightroom and Photoshop CC.

As long as you don't have driver issues all is good. I had two Windows machines of the same brand and upgraded both. I learned the hard drive driver couldn't handle Win10. So I now own two bricks and two Apple systems. Actually quite happy with that.

WARNING: If you wait past a month to revert back - you loose your O/S license as MS decides it is no longer valid - Some day I plan to load Linux on my two bricks - Microsoft, never again!!!

Make sure you back up important folders. For some inexplicable reason, the Windows 10 upgrade deleted a number of folders that I recently created. Old ones were okay. It seemed only to delete the most recent one. Actually, it's not so inexplicable. Some numb nuts programmer flubbed the loop on directory sub-folders. Apparently nobody at Microsoft picked up on it during testing. Luckily I had the foresight to make a backup of my whole drive.

It pays to take some time and look at the age of your associated peripherals. The older they are the less likely a driver will exist. Hardware more than about 5 years old may be an issue. The same might apply to firmware. When I made the move from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Pro I had to replace my color printer. I hated to do it because it had wonderful quality. Ultimately I got a refurbished HP color from MicroCenter that does beautiful prints.

I would base it on age of your hardware over anything else. I have upgraded 10+ systems, all Intel based. Systems built using newer hardware (Z87, Z97, Z170, X99, X79) all updated with no issues and have been running fine for almost a year. I also updated a couple of older, near identical X58 systems and there were driver problems which caused instability, in the end I reinstalled Win 7 on those two machines.

It's possible to get the Win10 & then revert back if you have a problem:

I have good news for you: you can claim your free Windows 10 upgrade now (or by July 29) and keep on running your familiar old Windows version indefinitely. This is not a trick, or a hack, or anything illegal. It’s a feature built into the Windows 10 upgrade process by Microsoft, who obviously doesn’t want to draw a lot of attention to it.

Microsoft has gotten sneaky with this upgrade. Now if you just close the "upgrade to windows 10?" box it does it automatically. Plus it downloads all the installation files. Filled the limited space on my sisters tablet.

People with older printers are getting hosed. Printer drivers seem to be the one thing that gets done last when a new OS comes out. This has become a real problem for people in the photobooth industry. I believe even the canon Selphy does not work with windows 10.

This is a great, free tool that blocks the automatic installation of windows 10 https://www.grc.com/never10.htm (external link)

Only issue I had was with my scanner driver. That was solved by installing VueScan. Everything else worked, and works, very well. It is a very worthwhile upgrade.

Interesting. I wonder how stable that is?
