I just recd my Micro Apollo and wanted to know since there isnt any use info with it other than how to install it, if for the most part it is designed to be used in straight on shots only...no flash head tilting? Also do you find yourself having to still reduce the flash output in addition to the box? I am using it on my 580ex.

thanks

I have one. Straight shooting, don't tilt the flash head. Try with ETTL, often works for me.

Softboxes are supposed to soften by virtue of the increase in apparent size of the source. If there is a low white ceiling and longer shooting distances, the ceiling bounce would provide far softer light than the Micro Apollo and taking the softbox off would improve the shooting distance reach of the ligth. But for closer distances and/or when ceiling is absent, too high, or colored, use the Wescott pointed straight at the subject.

Just ordered my Wescott last week - should arrive in a day or two. Look forward to some fun experimentation.

I've been using the Lumiquest pocket bounce, but was looking for something that would create a larger, softer area of light for close in portrait shots of bridal groups. The lumiquest has its strengths, but would tend to get a bit hot close in. Hopefully the Westcott will give me the look I'm trying for.
