I searched and didn't find a thread here for this lens so I thought I'd start one. Please let me know if another topic has already been started and I'll delete this one.

These are very carefully thought out and set up shots to test this lens for the quality of it's bokah and how well CA is controlled. ;-)a:-)

This wasn't taken using Sony gear but is a photograph of Sony gear, specifically, my a7rII + 85mm f1.4 GM.

Here is my impromptu self portrait as the first shot taken with my new Sony 85mm f1.4 GM lens. For shooting with my wireless remote and no pre focusing, I think the lens did a fine job of focusing on my eye, even while wearing a hat. I'm hard of hearing so the lens is whisper quiet to me! ;-)a

Makes a great landscape lens too. Sharp edge to edge.

Just switched from Canon to Sony and still looking for a good portrait lens. Don't know which one to get. The Batis or the SONY GM.

I did some comparisons between the two lenses here:

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1459578

The lenses are more similar than they are different, but there are certain conditions in which the lenses perform differently.

What was your go-to portrait lens when you rocked Canon gear?

If it helps, here are a couple more bokah tests I did with my FE 85 f1.4 GM-

This was shot outdoors looking across the street. There is a car directly behind the gnome parked at the curb.

IMAGE: https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7364/26976081634_8c9e42847c_b.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/H6MteL (external link) Bokah test (external link) by Gene (external link), on Flickr

Shot indoors at the near edge of my dining room table. The reflections on the table behind the gnome are from the mirrors in a china hutch directly behind.

I'd go for the GM personally. The bokeh on the Batis is pretty good in most circumstances, but when you have particularly busy backgrounds with a lot of specular highlights, the bokeh can get pretty nasty....and yeah if your point of reference is the 85L, it will likely bother you.
