Do you feel the wheel 'click' when you move it? Could you be seeing the same issue that crept on some of our 40Ds a few years back, where the rubber isn't gripping the plastic disk? If so, you can fix that with a couple of tooth picks and a tiny, tiny dab of super glue.

It feels fine as usual.
O.k. lets go and cry a little over my good old trusted 60D. The wheel is taking quite some abuse as I have the camera dangling on a blackrapid strap on my back.

Oh well - resisted an upgrade long time - as I still feel that my skills are still much more limiting then the camera body. This might be the straw? Lets see how this plays out.

Thanks you all for helping me to think all the options through. Very appreciated.

'if you have a spouse, you might not want to share that info. ;)

Likely some oxidation finally cleaned off from your trying it, assuming the contacts are physical and not electro-magnetic pulses. Nice combination of cameras to have. congrats on your unfortunate upgrade!
