A few years ago I bought domain name and entered in my main hotmail email address when I signed up. I immediately started getting spam to that email account. I enjoyed the process and learned a lot, but ended up not blogging and let that domain name lapse. Now I want to get another domain name for photography. But I want to avoid exposing my private information through the domain name buying process.

How can I do that? I used hostgator, but don't thik my issue was due to those people, I think it was due to the general domain name owning situation, and maybe how I went about it.

I actually paid extra money for privacy and security for my personal information, but the first spam email I got was for...you guessed it...an advertisement for a service to get security to help keep my information private.

Thank you.

Tim.

I get zero spam from my domain - using HostEurope.

I guess it will depend if you pay or not - free services may have clauses about advertising and "partners".
It can also depend on the hostname itself, the service, etc. etc. etc.

just quietly, you could always not quite correctly enter in some data, typo or just plain misspell things. Keyboards are well known for getting it wrong!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Yes. I have thought about creating an alter ego. With an email that is different than what I use every day.

If I use square space, will that help? Can you get domain names through them?

I've had a web site and domain name through GoDaddy for several years. I paid the extra for DomainsByProxy, so that my personal information is not obtainable throught a WhoIs search. I get very little spam through to the domain name.

I second Godaddy. I have four domains registered and I get very little or no spam at all.

After this thread and continued research, I bought two domains with GoDaddy last month, and paid extra for the DomainsByProxy privacy, and have not received any spam. Thank you.
