Pretty stoked to have my first drone photograph end up getting Explored. I haven't had a photo explored on Flickr in years!

Wasn't trying to brag. Was hoping this might spark some drone photography discussion.

Looks nice. How much processing from the drone image? What drone and camera were used?

Just noticed the DJI Phantom 4 in your sig. I've been considering it and the 3DS Solo.

Have you put extended range antennae on the controller?

It is a combo of 4 shots for a panorama from the Phantom 4. Not a ton of processing because I use the ND16 (http://store.dji.com/product/phantom-4-nd16-filter (external link)) on the camera which is an absolute necessity for sunny days. The f2.8 camera needs as much darkening help as it can get.

Nope, no extended range needed. They say the P4 will go 3 miles, but I haven't felt confident enough to test it yet. Furthest I've done is about 1,500 feet.

Nice shot. Cinematic feel to it.

Where is Lake Willoughby (I know I can google it, but figured I'd add to the thread this way)?

Pretty cool,

I've been wanting to get a drone. Costly though. I've thought about starting with a Phantom 3 Standard and just learning to even work it and see if it sticks, without spending three times that. I actually like the idea of using it for perspectives on things that we cannot do. I also like the idea of video from a perspective we cannot do. Just seems like a really neat tool for photography.

Very best,

Yes very good shot here. The problem is, theres no way I'm attaching my $2500 camera body to a drone, over the water.

A drone that will actually do it and not fail is several thousand dollars, and its simply not worth it yet.

Crazy expensive for a good drone that will work. But I commend those that are trying it!

spooky - Thanks! Lake Willoughby is in Westmore, Vermont. Let's just call it close to Canada and New Hampshire.

MalVeauX - The Phantom 4 is $1,500 (basically the cost of a lens) and is definitely more first-time-flyer-friendly than any other Phantom. I'm flying mine through twisty river beds with less than 4 hours of flight time experience. Here's a video I did last weekend: https://youtu.be/Qgn08Io7jrM (external link)

JTX - The total package for the Phantom is anywhere from $499 to $1,500 with their camera included. In order to use your camera you're into some serious $$$ for something large enough and those models require a lot of setup. Aside from the Phantom being a complete package and easy to use, it takes roughly 2 minutes to have it in the air after you pull it out of your backpack.

Nice video. Any color grading used on those? Nice smooth controls, you might have pushed me over the edge for the Phantom.

I used a ND16 filter for all of it, so no color grading was done in the darker shots. I did a little darkening on the brighter bits at Owls Head Overlook and Lake Willoughby because it was so bright out that day.

I would have to concur from above, enjoying the smooth colors of the shot. Well executed. Great job.
