NGC4755 Jewel Box Cluster and Becrux

This is the Jewel Box open cluster of stars, with Becrux top right. Becrux (also known as Beta Crucis or Mimosa) is the second brightest star in the constellation Crux (the left star in the Southern Cross), and the 19th brightest star in the night sky. Interesting little dark red star nearby. Pretty and colourful stars in this field.

Beautiful capture TP ! Love the colors especially Becrux ! When you mentioned Jewel Box Is that the one I've been told that is in Scorpios' tail ?

Edit : Never mind that is NGC 6231 I'm thinking of . I've heard some call that Scorpios' Jewel Box .

Thanks, Ron. I hadn't heard of NGC6231 being referred to as Northern Jewel Box until I just read about it. There's so many objects in Scorpio's tail, easy to miss little gems (pardon pun) like that.

There are lots and lots of jewels between Scorpio and the actual MW. Me and a friend spent one night scoping all that region down to below Sagittarius and up through M11 . Great region for scoping !
