Lately on several occasions I've noticed the access lamp blinking for a long time after I've taken a shot. Sometimes it's still blinking after 10 or 15 minutes. Is this normal? If I need to put it back in the bag right away I can stop it by turning off the camera.I can't imagine that it's still recording info that long afterward.

Are you using a card with pictures already on it in a new to you 7D?

No. I've had this camera almost 2 years and have put around 10,000 clicks on it. It does this with any of my 6 cards, all of which have only been used in this camera.

Long exposure noise reduction?
High ISO noise reduction?
Anything else set to run after a photo?

My 7D doesn't blink after photos at all with normal shooting. But if I enable all those in-camera features, it can blink for as long as the shot was, so if doing long exposure, it will be noticeable if doing a 3 minute exposure and then having long exposure noise reduction adding another 3 minutes, etc, blinking for a total of 6 minutes or so with those features on. But with them off? Instant.

Very best,

I read on DPReview that this happened to some people after upgrading their firmware.

Apparently, the fix (for some of them) was to re-format their cards in the camera.

Also it has a thread here on POTN

Long exposure noise reduction is off, high ISO noise reduction set to standard. Maybe I'll disable that. I haven't done any long exposures, but sometimes bump ISO to keep shutter speed up. I drive truck for an oilfield service company on the north slope in Alaska. It's a very dirty, dusty environment. When I see a photo op...usually a bird or animal, I have to check for traffic, stop the truck, pull camera out of bag, attach hood on 100-400, roll window halfway down, shut off engine, rest lens foot on window, and take a few shots until I see other traffic coming, at which time I have to get rolling again. Last week I had another problem crop up. Stopped for a beautiful Grizzly Bear right beside the road, and camera was dead. Turned it off, turned it back on and still dead. 50 yards down the road was a turnout, so I stopped there, removed and replaced the battery and everything's been fine since then. Do you suppose the two problems could be related?
Thanks for the tips!

Thanks WaltA. I'm still using firmware 2.0.3 that came in it. It was interesting in that DPReview thread that it was happening with the SanDisk 16 gig cards, which happens to be what I use, though mine are the "Extreme" ones.

So have you tried re-formatting them in the camera?

If there is some activity (continuously writing or reading the card) between shots that will eat up your battery.
