a CPL (circular polarizing filter) is almost a necessity in the blue ridge, and would make this a much nicer shot.

where were you?

That whole area is incredible . The blue haze gives the Blue Ridge mountains their name .

The area is just between Soco Gap and town Waynesville (NC).
About both East and west side Blue ridge 10 mile from
Waynesville is the most scenic foliage area among entire Blue Ridge,
I visit Blue Ridge 2-3 times a year, especially every Fall.
and even better than near Top of the Smokey Mountain area.

I go to this area fairly often myself. We usually rent one of the houses listed here: https://distinctivemtnlodging.com/Lodging.html (external link)

In most cases it's about the same cost as a hotel except you have a whole house to yourself with spectacular views. How often do you get to stay in a $600,000 house perched on the side of a mountain looking into Hickory Nut Gorge?

This was the view we had off the back deck of the house. Chimney Rock is on the left.

If you are into waterfall shooting you should look at these pages: http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/ (external link)

This guy has compiled a great deal of info on locations of some of the most photogenic falls in western NC. Some of them are kind of remote and difficult to get to but I have found that they are well worth the effort.

Nice to see someone else that loves this area as much as I do.

It looks like it is taken from Lake Lure at night.
Not easy to take this type of great photography to amateur like me.
