I haven't been posting any of my R/C lately but we finally had an event which always draws lots of warbirds. I have been testing the Sigma 150-500 C this season & this would be the event where it could be a winner or looser for my primary needs in a long lens. To say the least it surpassed my highest hopes considering it's price. All of these are from a 1D4 & Sigma 150-600 C at 1/500 sec.

Good series on them. They all look like they just came off the assembly line, though. I wonder if any of the guys age them so that they look like they've actually been in action?

I have to agree with your assessment Frank. Based on the past I doubt many locals go that route however the Stuka may. It's still a work in progress and there is still a rear gunner to install & minor detailing etc so maybe it will get some aging added.

These are excellent!

Some of the air shows I attend will have RC modelers give a flying demonstration.
Speaking just for myself, I find capturing flying models to be challenging.
I don't bring back many keepers. The little buggers zip around in the sky so fast!

You did good!

Btw...
Have you tested the Sigma Sport version?
I have the C and I'm curious how it compares to the S.

No. The sport would simply be too heavy for me. I'm on the flight line from the time it opens (which is usually by 9:30 AM) until it closes around 4:00 to 4:30 & no matter what camera / lens combo I'm using it gets REAL HEAVY around 3:00 PM. I don't think the sport could serve me any better even if it's sharper or has better OS etc considering how important the panning is relative to the result. I also agree that R/C is more challenging than full scale both due to physical size & their speed relative to camera position. My targets are making high speed passes down the runway which is right in front of me & may be as narrow as 100 feet wide to 300 feet wide but in general they are within 150 feet of me or less.

Thank You. Unfortunately today's event is rained out. Worse yet it's one of the few events each year that's just a few minutes from home.

This is a 100% crop of the image already here. It's pretty sharp considering the speed of the plane & shutter speed used. I will also add another shot of the BBD & the crop which is even sharper (I think) so I'd say the C version is all I need.
