Fix a broken lens cap

Hi all,

First post on here, hoping this is the best category for my problem. I dropped my lens while it had the cap on and because of the angle it fell, it managed to break the rim of plastic that keeps the cap clipped to the lens (the photo describes my problem much better than my words can). So now my clip doesn't grip all that well (see second picture) and continually falls off. Currently have a rubber band around it to provide a little more grip but still quite annoying. I have lost the pieces that got snapped off so can't superglue it back on, the particular piece can't be replaced, so I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions?

Thanks

Go to B&H or other supplier and enter "58mm push-on lens cap". I think that should solve your problem.

You broke off the filter ring on the lens, ouch! That is a bit more than just a lens cap

try this?

That is an easy piece to replace and the part needed is available off eBay for $25. See http://www.ebay.ie …11e938:g:NJEAAOSwT6pVqXCF (external link).

For the instructions, go to https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1074479 and scroll down to post #11 where "Thermomonkey" provides the instructions for disassembly. You really only need to do steps 1 through 3 to remove the damaged filter ring unit. You basically remove the lens name ring and then three screws that hold the front filter ring. Grab the lens and with your thumbs push the ring off, slowly working your way around the lens. It is a snug fit so you have to work a little bit at a time, going around the lens. Then reverse your steps to reassemble.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Amazing, didn't know either of those options existed (it's my girlfriend's camera so I don't know much about this). I'll have a look at both but the lazy part of me will probably end up going for the pop on cap....

Thread caught my eye but did not work for me. I have a fisheye with a broken cap. The glass lens itself extends beyond the front plane of the lens barrel, so the lens cap is around 1"+ deep. Can't find a push on cap or replacement, and the lens cannot be filtered.

Would be nice to fix it. The cap keeps coming off in the bag and will eventually cause the glass to be scratched.

Nicely done! I'll look into it. Dollar stores around here have all kinds of tupperware containers, plastic cups and junk. Undoubtedly will be able to find something there... cheap !
