I've been looking for an affordable Ultra Wide Angle lens for my 6D and have had my eye on the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 AF II DG HSM for Canon. While looking around today I came across an awesome price on Abe's:

I've never dealt with Abe's before, but they have very good reviews on Reseller Rattings: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Abe_of_Maine (external link)

So I went ahead and ordered the lens. As far as ultra-wides go on full frames, this is supposed to be a very good lens and when I rented it I was very happy with it's performance.

I'm was a little hesitant because it's basically 1/2 price, but I'll post back once I get it.

Abe's used to be a good place to buy. Then I think they got bought out or something because for a awhile they were really pushing upsells and bait and switch. I'm not sure where they stand now, but be prepared for a phone call trying to upsell something to you. They may tell you this lens doesn't have a warranty or some such thing and try to get you to pay for for a warranty.

Let us know how the sale goes and if the lens is what you expected. I'd like to know if Abe's has cleaned up its act.

Use the "Search Forum" feature for the Market Watch section and you'll find some previous threads concerning Abe's of Maine. Personally, I'd have my credit card company on speed dial ready to dispute charges if necessary.

I heard that there is no Abe and they're nowhere near Maine.

I've also heard a lot of bait and switch stories since it was bought out. Not a place I want to deal with but those stories were all with the body and how the charger isn't included, battery isn't included and so on.

Based on many other's experiences and first-hand reports, I would never attempt to do business with this company. I hope you don't run into too much trouble. If you do and you need help in figuring out the best solution, please do not hesitate to ask. Myself and many others can offer you good advice for rectifying any problems that may occur.

Cheers,
Bryan

Well, I'm very happy to report that everything went very well! It took a little while, 6 days, but I got the lens and it works perfectly. I did get a call to verify the order, but no hard sell tactics at all. The lens is a US version and came with everything as expected. I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

I don't know how they can sell it $400 cheaper than everyone else, but it's still available.

Glad to know it worked out for you. Yes, it's a mystery why it's $400 cheaper than others.
