I'm pretty confident pricing myself for events. I have a decent grasp on macro and have been asked to photograph some small machined products for sales advertisements. It would be a license for ads possibly even on products themselves. Any general pointers or tips?

Thanks

In my area a friend was getting $400 per day plus expenses. That was a few years ago.

Not trying to be glib, but I think the correct answer is whatever your client is willing to pay. Figuring that out takes some digging and discussion to ascertain and hopefully the result falls within your sense of what it's worth for you to do it. This is the heart and soul of the business side of the 'photography business' equation and is typically much harder to do than the photography itself.

I know photographers who shoot product for less than a hundred per day all the way up to six figures per day. I suspect that you'll fall somewhere in-between.

Best of luck with the project-

I did a quick search of "Product photography" and this forum, and came up with the following threads:

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1348841

All of them contain some very relevant information. You may want to read through those.

go to a stock site and pretend to be a buyer and see what a RM stock image licenses for their requested ad usage.

Sure there are people shooting under what their CODB is but they either have a spouse supporting them or they will be making a career change as they age. I personally can't mathematically see anyone anywhere in America who actually takes an honest look at all the math of their CODB and can charge less than $1,500 for a single day of photography plus any production costs.

The best start is to ask for their budget. This will help you waste less time on clients who are not willing to pay a fair wage. For product work, the simplest fee structure is an hourly rate plus expenses, and this rate includes unlimited usage. I create an estimate for the client on how ling it will take to execute the job including PP and multiply that by my hourly rate. I usually charge between of $150-250 er hour, but you r fee may be less if you are just getting started.

$400 a day is pretty cheap for photography. Don't undercut yourself.
