I shoot canon. May eventually change to mirorrless sony if these clowns dont offer some real tech advances soon but thats here nor there.

Starting out, I loved prime lenses and I still do.
I moved on to my current setup; 135mm f2 and a tamron 24-70.

the tamron is on the way out the door when I find a buyer for my idiotic low price I'm selling it for.

That aside, and the income I have from two weddings this weekend, I have some extra cash.

I'm torn between
35 and 50 primes
or a canon f2.8 II 24-70

I don't shoot weddings often so I don't mind renting the 24-70.

I do use the 24mm end a lot during my shoots but I feel like I could honestly go without it.

IF I go with primes I am then torn between Sigma art series and the new zeiss milvus lenses.

I love manual focusing and normally its not an issue at all.
I usually always do it.

AF is nice tho since I and gonna move into street photography and some moments just don't pause.

IF I went with Autofocusing primes, would it be worth getting the sigmas or spending some extra cash and getting the canon L series ( I LOVE L series gear and DONT mind spending a little extra, IF its truly worth it

I know this normally boils down to what I need and would use most but honestly I can make due with anything so.

I do love the funky effects and cool stuff you can do with bigger apertures.

One more benefit to getting ART series lenses is that I can spend some extra cash on other goodies. Studio stuff etc.

THANKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS for your time :D

Heya,

Since you say weddings and general stuff is rare for you, maybe don't bother with a 24-70 and if you really feel the need, rent it as you stated, or pick up a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 as a compromise between.

You could get some ART or L series lenses. Or, since you like manual focus, you could look at some nice Samyang lenses, like the Samyang 35 F1.4 and Samyang 50 F1.4 since you like those, maybe start with the 35. You save a lot of cash that way, for studio stuff. If you feel you need AF for street, maybe just grab a humble 50 STM and call it a day there.

Very best,

^ I second the "start with a 50mm stm". And suggest the 70-200L f2.8 II as your workhorse, many will state it's worth the premium.
If you need wider than 50mm, I recommend either the newer Sigma 24mm f1.4 for AF or the Samyang prime for manual.
Build out from there if. needed.

With that said I love my 24L 50L combo. I tried both Sigma lenses in a store and the extra weight is not something I'm interested in.
I prefer to use my 6D without a battery grip. he L primes weight is a fair balance between AF, fast glass, and weight.

While the Samyang / Rokkon f1.4 prime costs less, it actually weighs 30 grams more than the Canon, even without AF

Nicky.
You have good taste.
It's like trying to decide between two Top Shelf Red Wines.........
I know if I was to move on to Primes only, I would want Auto Focus. You can certainly use in Manual Focus when needed.
Enjoy the "Ride to Decide".
I just did the same for a new SUV myself.
