Hi,

Can anybody give me any pointers on how to achieve this look?
I've searched youtube but found nothing, I expect I'm not using the correct words in the search.

Many thanks

First off, forum rules state that if it's not your image, you must post only a URL link to the original image/site, don't post the image itself.

Second: I don't see anything particularly unusual about it, in terms of processing. There's a fair amount of grain that is likely a combination of high-ISO sensor noise, and grain added in post (more of the former, less of the latter). Saturation is increased somewhat. White balance is corrected with basic adjustment to get the main subject's skin tone pretty close, possibly using an area of the black coat near his face as a neutral point.

Images like this are about setting and timing. The photographer positioned him/herself such that the green backlight nicely outlines the dark subject. The other effects are from red stage lights and a stage fog machine.

If you still want answers, don't delete the entire post; just edit and change the photo to a link.

+1 to the above. It looks to be more about physical lighting than post processing. The background is lit with the usual red theatrical lights and a yellow spot light at the back. The rays do look like they have been added/enhanced in post but as for the subject it looks like he has been lit by a flash or stobe to right of shot as he is not as affected by the red light. They next too him also appears to be partially lit by the flash/strobes, while the guys in the background are coloured by the red light.

this "look" has very little to do with post processing or even a flash. Great concert photography is highly dependent on the lighting tech and their available hardware.

the image in question has the stage lit well, very well. White light coming from the front with all the accent lighting coming from behind. The white light is coming from the rigging above. Seek out venues and lighting techs that don't have their head in their ass.

It looks like the is something very reflective next to him on his right that is reflcting the yellow back light.

The reason I asked how to achieve this effect is I have seen another photo from another photographer ... Robin Looy and they look very similar, here https://www.facebook.com …556061250/?type=3&theater (external link)
I wondered therefore if there was some way of achieving the look, as I like it.

Thanks for your input all. :-)
