Just a thought. Instead of just deleting a thread (that some of us may have been following but didn't see the offending posts) would it be possible to just delete the offending posts, lock the thread and add a post to the thread outlining why it was locked?

I was following a thread this afternoon that I thought interesting and saw a post that I thought was insensitive. I considered replying to it but decided to let it slide. When I came back later the whole thread was gone.

Some threads may have valuable information before it went off the rails.

What thread was that?

Usually we do delete individual posts, but if the problematic post is the first one, then the thread might lose 'consistency', so it may be better to delete the whole thread.

It was comparing pictures from the same lens but different apertures. Asking if the same lens at a different aperture had different picture quality.

Don't remember who the TS was - but it was a low-poster.

I thought I was losing it when I went back to find it and couldn't

I agree with this. But if the post was further down the thread ......

Aha, it was moved to a forum that I have hidden from myself.

I guess maybe a copy of the thread left where it was with a link to where it is now would be nice.

Pekka keeps saying we shouldn't hide forums. Guess its my own fault.

Whenever I click a thread in a forum I'm not subscribed to, it displays a notification that I am not subscribed.

Odd you did not get that.

But there was no thread. It was there and then it was gone. There was nothing to click on.

Not if I've filtered that forum out.

The thread mentioned above is now in the Lens Forum and its not showing up in FYEO

Edit: I just unfiltered the Lens forum and now its in FYEO
