I would like to expand the memory on my work laptop and I am considering getting a Memory Expansion Card like this:
https://www.amazon.com …S128GJDL130/dp/B00K73NT0S (external link)

I've also seen the tiny USB 3.0 Flash drives like these:
https://www.amazon.com …fRID=VW29A3ZCKMYF137HSZ38 (external link)

It looks like the SD expansion card has a faster write speed, 60mb/sec vs 45mb/sec. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these and can tell me if they are fast enough to use as extra storage and if they are worth getting.

I have not used those Jet Drives but I did upgrade my 11" Macbook Air with a Transcend SSD. Very fast and zero issues.

I use a few large capacity SD cards 256Gb and 512Gb capacities to travel with , Primarily in my 6D and with a card reader, it's a flash drive.
I move a ton of data on and off them when needed. Having at least a 60Mb/s write speed saves me a lot of time.
I bought this, and a combat 3.0 USB reader.

As for those options you mentioned it depends what you want to do with them.
First I recommend the larger 256GB size of JetDrive. Buy once cry once.
The real advantage here is leaving it in to Air 24/7 if you don't mind typing of your SD card reader.
I wish my Air had that option.

Alway spend the extra for the larger space. Your future self will thank you.
While that Lexar is compact and low-priced, the trade off is write speed.
If you want to load once, and keep your media on the extra card of USB drive, that will be fine.
You can easily listen to music or watch 1080p videos off of either option you stated.

If, on the other hand, you will use it actively managing and transferring gigs of data,
once you use a fast writing card, anything slower will feel like your stuck in 1st gear.

Best of luck to you.

I don't need this for photography at all, I just need more storage for my work laptop and I can't upgrade the hard drive. They only put a 120gb SSD in it and now after only 5 months of use I have 19gb free and this thing crawls. When I fist got this it took 45 seconds to boot up, now it's up to almost 5 minutes..

I'm looking for an easy and cheap way to store all of my library files so they don't go onto the hard drive, and I don't need that much space. 16gb would probably be fine, but I'm going to go with 128gb just to be safe.

I recommend that Jet Drive then.
The larger the better of you are taking up your SD slot. Since you stated you can't upgrade the hard drive.
And it will remains there 24/7.
No change of forgetting it.
Such as the USB stick.
