Tamron CEO lefthanded ?

I wonder why Tamron made a reverse zoom on the 24-70 2.8 VC.

This is the best price/quality standardzoom on the market for portrets, I tested them all, but pulling the zoom counterclockwise has an amateuristic feel, just like there's a production fault
Are there other brands that also has such a reverse zoom or is Tamron the only one ?

If the CEO is left handed, he could maybe make a switch on it for clockwise & counterclockwise

There are two possible orientations of rotation. Of the current 24-70 f/2.8 options I can find readily:

Camp 1
Canon
Tokina ATX-Pro SD
Sigma HSM


Camp 2
Nikon
Sigma Macro
Tamron
Sony FE
Pentax

Ah so Nikon users have also counterclockwise zooms... it's strange to get used to this when you worked always clockwise

My Tokina AT-X 28-70 zooms in the opposite direction from all my Canon made lenses, so perhaps they have changed their design.

It's easy. I just don't buy backward, Nikon style lenses.

And my Tokina 11-16 zooms in the opposite direction from my Canon zoom, so any 'design change' is not recent.

LENS DIRECTIONALITY: I just took inventory of different lenses which I have for different format cameras, and have color coded same-behavior lens brands:

Canon 17-->55, 0-->Infinity
Tamron 75<--28, Infinity<--0
Tokina 16<--11, 0-->Infinity
Bronica 45-->90, Infinity<--0
Olympus 35-->70, 0-->Infinity

and supplementing my lenses with those seen in lens tests...
Nikon 35<--16, Infinity<--0
Sony 200<--70, 0-->Infinity
Sigma 24-->70, 0-->Infinity
Pentax 70<--24, Infinity<--0


So you can see the Tokina is consistent with Canon for focus direction, but NOT for zoom! It matches Sony for directionality of controls.

The new Tamron primes focus the Canon way now so they have changed things too

Sigma have some lenses go Canon wise, and some Nikon. From what I have seen the Newer Global Vision range all go Canon. Older EX series go Nikon, and I have noticed that the 50-150 f/2.8 changed from Nikon wise in the original version to Canon wise in the latest HSM OS version. I'm not sure about the intermediate HSM version. My Sigma 28-300 DG is Canon wise. I seem to see a change in the Sigmas for lenses introduced after about 2008 or so.

I looked at one in store, and even had it on my camera, and didn't notice that. But then my two most used lenses, both Sigma work in opposition to each other. I have zero issues swapping between them either.

I struggled for a few seconds with a 3rd party lens that zoomed the opposite direction from my Canon's. I consider myself smart enough to know that, while looking through the viewfinder, if I turn one way and get results I didn't want, to try turning the other direction. You only have two directions to choose from. If it ain't one, it most certainly is the other.

It's really not an issue unless you are doing video work where your mistakes are captured for everyone to see.

I don't do a lot of video, but my guess is that those who do a lot of it become more familiar with their equipment, and make fewer of those 'mistakes'. I also assume that those doing a lot of video, also do some editing, also mitigating the problem somewhat.

I used to have two SIGMA's for EF mount that were opposite eachother.

I always found that Canon's focus direction was backward..

yeah, push-pull is often a lot easier for zoom
