This was my second time visiting the Northern Parks of Tanzania and I'm pretty sure I saw as many new species (to me) as I did during my FIRST visit in 2009!

Some of the birds from Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, that I saw on my Safari in May:

1. Red-billed Firefinch (what a cool name!)

6. African Crake (I didn't even know that there WAS such a bird as a "crake"!)

7. Water Thicknee (honestly - who comes up with these names? LOL)

By my quick count of pics from that day, I have 20 species sighted in the first day... Not a bad day. Not bad at all, considering it's not a bird-specific outing.

For the whole set, you can can visit my "First Day of Safari album on Flickr" at https://flic.kr/s/aHskBQKhKA (external link)

Asante Sana!

Nice,

You can't beat Africa for variety and a good selection posted here Brian, never seen the Yellow-collared Lovebird or Red-billed firebird - good catches on those, in fact good catches on all.

Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed these.

Kev

Thanks Kev! I'm surprised I hadn't seen the lovebirds around, previously - there were so many there that day.. you'd think I would have seen them. Such a great variety in Tarangire alone!

LOL - yeah I noticed that. But they could have called it the "bugeye", just as easily. So much coolness!

That was my second time and I STILL have the desire to go back... Can't get it out of my blood... Like Malaria ;)
