Okay, I've been having fun with my macro lens, but I seem to be finding more and more bugs that I have no idea what they are. How do you all identify them? Is there a site on the internet? Or a good book?

Here is an example one I just took on my back door, sorry about the dirty glass. I don't know what it is.

and a shot from inside the house through the window on the door.

That looks like a horsefly or clegg fly to me with those eyes. Others here will I suspect know better.

Thanks, Solider fly looks to be it. I'm used to looking up birds so I know generally how to classify them to find them faster, but insects are new to me. I'll try out the sites everybody mentioned.

Great eyes on that fly. You should be able to find lots of dragonflies, TX has more species (225) than any other State. Guy from Austin on Flickr shoots many around Yett Creek.
