These aren't really typical photos to submit for critique but I thought I'd see if I could get any tips for this kind of photography.. "documentary" style. I had my camera settings on AFC 3d tracking, which seemed to work fine for this erratic movement from the kids. I could still select where I wanted the main focus to be so I still had some control and shallow DOF while allowing the camera to follow the movement. I think the biggest challenge was framing them correctly since they were all over the place of course. Yes this is in direct bright sun and yes I could retake if the lighting is better, but that's not the point of them.

Thoughts appreciated.

General comments from a grandpa who does a lot of this stuff.

#1 is framed too tightly. No sense of what is going on.
#2 I would have binned it as uninteresting. Tastes vary.
#3, #4, #5, #6 are excellent as is.

No's 4, 5 and 6 for me. #6 is great with the shot being taken while she is in air plus the facial expression is wonderful.

I like the last one too.

It's an even 100 right now out my window so my first thought on seeing these is that I wish I were right in there with them.

My opinion is that #2 is the weakest of the set. I prefer to see a face. The others are good. I liked #1 because all the water flying about made me pause and look at the picture. It was clear she was in a pool, no idea (nor is it important) whether someone is splashing or there is a sprinkler going. It may have been improved if she looked at the camera, but not a bad shot.

Except for #2, I'd be happy if you gave me those shots (if they were my children).

Only my opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it :p

#1 - I liked this especially with the water spray. Would like to have seen a bit wider angle on this.
#2 - I would discard this one. Uninteresting photo of the child's back.
#3 - I like this one - very good capture of the children's expressions.
#4 - Good focus on the boy's face but I don't like the way his right arm is cut off.
#5 - Again good, but would have been better without the boy's arm being cut off.
#6 - Perfect. By far the best of these photos.
