First edited image / dynamic range test on the Mavic 2 Pro. Pretty good if you ask me.

Just wanted to share my brief thoughts on Mavic 2 Pro. Just as a reference, I have owned the original Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro in the recent years, but no longer have them. I sold the MP due to small sensor and not much to work with RAW files. It flew like a champ but IQ just didn't meet my expectations. I was very happy with P4P (and owned it for a much longer period than the MP, but eventually sold it few months ago in anticipation of Mavic Pro mark II release. It had great IQ and RAW files were quite nice to work with. The only problem to me was that it was too big. I was not able to take with me everywhere and found it to be sitting in my room more often than not. Please note that I did not test the video features, as I solely purchased these drones for photography purposes.

Now that I've had the M2P for a few days, I was able to test shoot some still images. They are very very similar to P4P quality. Much better than original MP, but definitely NOT better than P4P. I think they share same quality at best. The only thing that annoyed me a bit was the ability to shoot long exposures (3 secs or longer) at night during windy conditions (yes in tripod mode as well). If I remember correctly (and going thru few P4P night images), under similar windy conditions I definitely had more keepers from P4P than the M2P. Other than that, I think M2P and P4P share very similar still image qualities. I'm hoping to keep this M2P for even longer than P4P due to its size and portability.

Having said above, below are few test shots. They were shot in RAW and processed in LR.

I have watched a few tests between the two (MP2 and P4P) and the video quality is noticeably sharper on the P4P. Couldn't really tell a difference between image quality though. In a perfect world, I would love to have a P4P. But I'm in the same boat as you. It's simply too large. Also far too loud, and I don't want to be "that guy" flying my drone and annoying everyone within half a mile of it. That's why I opted for the Mavic 2 Pro. The IQ is significantly better than the cell phone sensors in the other drones, and even if it's 95% as good as the P4P, it more than makes up for it with it's portability and quiet sound.

First two test shots were from Rancho Mirage (during my vacation) and third one is St. Jude Hospital next to my house in Fullerton. I haven't been traveling much due to heavy work schedule but will just try to take this flying camera with me everywhere to just shoot anything..

Right on point!! We share same reasons for owning the M2P. :)

This is one of the main things I wanted my drone for - getting sunrise/sunset shots in suburbia. Really jealous of that Mavic 2 Pro now. I still have plenty to learn with this one though.

I thought that was St. Jude. I’m not to far from there. Normally a buddy and myself fly in Anaheim hills area. I’m in Yorba Linda. Next time I fly I’ll hit you up! Normally we go early mornings on sat or Sundays. Dog beach is another nice place to fly.

The Mavic 2 is SO QUIET. I was flying it yesterday, and I lost sight of it behind a small tree. When I stepped around a tree to find it, I had a hard time locating it, so I flew it back to where I was. I knew it was near me based on the camera feed, but I ended up flying right over my own head without seeing it until it was past me. It was at 175 feet and I couldn't hear it at all over normal park sounds.
