This is why I got the drone. Hard to get sunset shots in suburbia.

Damn.. working in this area for almost 20 years and I never knew there was an airport, until you pointed it out. I've never really seen any planes so it was hard for me to know, but I just googled it and it is indeed a very small airport! Hmmm, strange that it even allowed me to fly to that point from where I was (about a mile and half away further from airport).. Won't be flying anywhere near there anymore though.. Too risky and dangerous. Thanks for pointing it out.

Now, I like your approach!
Imagine how many people may not even be aware of a small airport nearby and let their drones fly nearby...disaster in the making.

It's a shame as the shots of the sports fields are good.

I believe DJI software will only stop you from flying in Restricted Zones like jails, Washington DC, military installations and such. I'm not suggesting that you should fly there, but you actually can fly within 5 miles of an airport as long as you follow the rules. Notify the airport operator or tower and ask for permission...I'm not sure of all the details, I've just read up some because my brother got a Mavic and I was somewhat interested myself.

You say you've lived there for 20 years and never knew there was an airport. Perhaps it's actually abandoned ?

I can't tell from the photo but if there is an X painted across the runways, it is officially closed.
