True but there is concealed carry and I'm good with that ;)

Hehe..either way, when you head into the city, be ready to 'shoot from the hip'. (external link).... camera or otherwise

OK next week's theme is STREET PHOTOGRAPHY. A genre I know nothing about, have little access to. I think I can
get to Asheville in 1.5 hours-that will be my closest venue.
I know so little about it I googled:

'Street photography is a type of photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. Street photographs are mirror images of society, displaying “unmanipulated” scenes, with usually unaware subjects.”

I notice it doesn't say urban, so I wonder if I'm standing on a road/asphalt and get a candid of Farmer Joe on his tractor is that street photography? From what else I googled it implies people in city scenes eh?

Regardless I think most members here have access to cities/streets so lets go for it!

wow...didn't see that coming...nice one...

Nervous=me :) I've been within 60 feet of polar bears, literally surrounded by grizzlie-three of them, closest 20 feet and I was
completely calm. Taking pictures of people on the street without their knowledge worked on my nerves--especially after they spotted
me spotting them!
But this guy didn't notice Ha!
I title it 'Only the penitent man may pass' and it is a non-competing (since I get to judge this round correct, the judge doesn't compete?)
entry. I just wanted to participate BUT I cheated--look at the focal length. NO way I could do this with a point and shoot.

Lol nice work either way. I don't have it in me to do street photography either.

A good friend of mine lives out in Boston and takes phenomenal street photos. It takes a certain personality to pull it off. He's really good with people and not at all threatening.

not to sound sexist...but some of the best street photographers I know of...are women...they seem to be able to get away with it a lot more than men...I am lousy at it...like MM, nervous I will get caught...

Not sexist at all. Lets face it, most of the creepy people in the world are men. I used to try to do street photography when I would travel to places like Chicago, NYC, and Pittsburgh for work......This might be all in my head, but I always feel like the creepy dude with the camera and my shots would turn out like garbage because they were composed poorly. You really need to have the gumption to just take the shot without caring.

There is some technique involved though....firing from the hip using MF and distance scales to get in focus shots without holding the camera up to your face.

pretty much how I feel when I have ever attempted street photography...like a creep...and I don't think I am a creep, it just made me feel that way...so I really don't do it unless I am out and can make it work and not feel like a dirtbag...

Man I packed my camera y'day and was going to do some street shooting on my lunch break but the CEO of the company bought us all lunch so we ended up staying in. I'm going to try it Monday whether or not I make the deadline

I will try to get out downtown tonight to get some shots. Definitely out of comfort zone.
