I haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd share a couple of shots from Wednesday. Hope you enjoy them.

Nice close ups but definitely over processed :( . The moon isn't that dark . Can you post your original unprocessed images ?

There wasn't much processing done on these. These are AVI files of 1000 frames. The 50 best frames were stacked in autostakkert and then I used LR to sharpen the image and reduce the noise. I'm not sure what happened when I uploaded these but the image of Tyco is terrible. I'll give it another go and try and find what I did wrong. The images looked much better on my computer.

Actually, if you use a variable polarizing filter to remove glare parts of the moon are very dark.

Thanks for commenting.

Here is the unprocessed and re-processed version of Tyco. I downloaded and used the newest version of autostakkert. Surprisingly, it would not stack the Plato AVI nor would registax6.

un-processed (stack of 50 frames)

Bottom two look much better. I know now what the problem is , that polarizing filter. Not a good moon filter cause it's not even in protection . You need a regular moon filter . They have an even protection of glare throughout and should not darken darker areas of the moon like the way it is in your images.

The filter is a variable moon filter made by orion. I get the same results when I use a regular moon filter.

If you used the wavelets on Registax then you may have adjusted settings in such a way that it was over sharpening.

The "wavelets" work by looking for edges or borders of contrast ("structure") and then amplifying that contrast. This has an effect that a bit like "edge sharpening" in that it makes the bright side of the edge bolder and brighter and the dim side gets darker. But if over-done it starts to look like an impressionist's painting.

Do you have a Meaded ND96 Filter ? If you do try that instead of the Polarizing filter . Celestrons new Moon Filter is med green but I have not tried that one before so I have no idea if it causes a green cast in images or not however if switched to grayscale it wouldn't matter anyway .
