I did my first paid gig today - here are a few. I'll be submitting a total of around 100 images. I was comfortable charging $150 considering it was my first job but funnily they ended up volunteering an additional $100.

These look pretty good to me, too.

...but funnily they ended up volunteering an additional $100.

When I was an assistant, I shot a Comp for Pam Dawber (Mork & Mindy) & she did that to. Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling, doesn't it? ; )

I hate that. Not much you can do about it.

Looks like it was pretty dark in there huh?

Congratulations. I suspect you are somewhat relieved that it is over and was successful.

Good composition and exposure on the shots posted.

Nice work. I recently shot a baptism (only my second time doing a baptism), and I know how quickly those shots can come and go. I also had the pleasure  of dealing with a very strict priest that tried to dictate where I would stand.

I think you nailed the lighting which is probably the most important part. Even if your composition or context of the shots are terrible, clients seem to gravitate towards well-lit shots that ultimately look worlds better than any photo a guest would take. Really like the wide angle view with the family on the alter. Great job!

It actually wasn't that dark but I purposely increased the SS to make sure the shots weren't blurry. I thought about using my tripod so I wouldn't have as high ISO but decided against it because it would slow me down and I didn’t want to miss shots. I knew my gear could handle it.

I think you could have gotten away with much slower shutter speeds. To freeze subjects in this type of situation, I usually set the minimum shutter to about 1/125, and even down to 1/80 for those static shots. The only time I will increase the minimum to 1/200 - 1/250 is if I have the 70-200 lens on the camera to reduce the possibility of camera-shake at the 200mm end. Typically, I feel comfortable shooting 1/200 @ 200mm and not worrying about camera shake when the IS engaged. You have a few images between 18-50mm that were shot with speeds much faster than needed to freeze your subjects, and faster than needed to eliminate camera-shake based on your focal length.

I'll definitely try slower SS for the next event. My lenses don't have image stabilization and my bigger lens weighs 3 lbs.
