I was at Amazon and on the front page in the "based on your purchases/recommendations" was this!

It was right next to the EF 500mm f/4l IS II, so at least there's that, but really Amazon?
I thought you knew me?

Hmm, it's got 4 stars, maybe I should not judge.

Well, if you are looking for what is wrong with Amazon, Read the reviews on this item for sale :-)

You did nothing wrong; they just have *that* much confidence in your skills ;)

But it looks just like a Canon lens, and only for $209.95!!! How could you go wrong?

Did you look at some of the accessories that other people bought with it? A $14.95 Opteka "high definition" UV/Haze filter and a $14.95 Fotodiox macro extension set. I guess it turns it into a microscope.

Now I'm thinking we need to start a new thread in the lens sample forum for the Opteka and post up all of our best shots ;)

I've been kicking around the idea of getting one and playing around with it for the summer just for kicks 'n grins, to see just how bad those are.

If I recall correctly there WAS a thread about this lens many moons ago,. maybe I can dig it up.

This is the thread I recall; most image links broken, and s slightly different model I think?

I have actually used one and surprisingly, it does actually work. The IQ is about on par with a spotting scope, the lens is a bit flimsy, and it takes quite a bit of skill to get a decent image, but it gets you to 1200mm+ for way less than 10k (or $120k); :):)

For those interested, there is a Flickr group (external link) with lots of image samples. If you got $200 and like to take moon images or just play around, it's a very cheap way to do so.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
