I live in Cleveland, which is right on Lake Erie, so depending on wind conditions, we may have a bit more moisture in the air than many other cities. Anyway, I had the day off yesterday and decided that I was going to try to get some shots of boats, the skyline, freighters, or really anything else that caught my eye. There was so much haze that the colors were almost completely washed out. I did this between 10am and 2pm.
I then went back out to the same places at 8:30pm-10:30 figuring maybe some of the haze had gone away. Still a bunch there but decided to try to get some city night shots from a tripod. The shots were better but far from clear, which I can only assume was due to the haze and humidity still present in the air.
The temperature during the day yesterday was 85, and it had gone down to maybe 80 when I went back at night. The overnight low was maybe 70 last night and it was very humid.
When trying to do shots like this, is it better at say 3-5am? Or do the warm nights still mess everything up? Is my only option to do this when it may be in the 50s and 60s Like in the spring and fall? Just trying to get an idea of what time of day I really should be trying to get these type of photos.
