Monitor choice

I currently have a Dell 2408wfp monitor which I have had for about 6 years. I've used a Spider elite 3 to calibrate it. I've never been overly happy with the match to prints (printed via a lab) despite various profiling experiments etc.

I'm now wondering if it's time to go for a better monitor to get greater accuracy.

I'm looking at the Eizo Coloredge CS270 or the NEC PA272W for about £800/£900. Does anyone have any experience of these and a view as to whether they would offer a significant step forward the which to choose between the two. Also, both monitors come with software which will utilize the spider 3 I believe. However, is this also a bit long in the tooth now and do I need to look at upgrading this too?

Finally BenQ also offer montors to apparently similar specs for a couple of hundred pounds less. Anyone compared the two in the real world to see how they perform in comparison?

All thoughts gratefully received!

Cheers

Geoff

you don't want to use Spyder 3... = http://www.drycreekphoto.com …rCalibrationHardware.html (external link)

in general products from DataColor (even they were making things better with each next version) are nowhere near products from GmB/X-Rite

so just buy i1DisplayPro colorimeter and forget Spyder 3 as a nightmare from your childhood.

PS: as for the matching print & monitor - you really need (to get closer to perfection) to have a proper viewing booth near your monitor and calibrate to match under the certain illumination...

Ditto! It's just a very solid device all around, and easy to set up.
I was also initially considering an Eizo, but in the end, the difference in price wasn't worth it. Both get as close to perfection as you can reasonably expect.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.
